Some notable features include various articles on the Golden Jubilee of Pope Pius IX, an essay from the LONDON WORLD discussing John Henry Cardinal Newman's daily life in Birmingham, an article on Peter Claver (who was not yet canonized at the time), and a series of articles reporting on Marian apparitions at the German town of Marpingen, a subject of controversy during the Kuturkampf.
