English playwright and intellectual Hannah More (1745-1833) is best remembered for her conservative and highly moralistic tracts, such as those opposing the ideas of Thomas Paine. She also founded girls' schools which provided mainly religious education and domestic training, as she was generally opposed to literacy among the lower classes of women.
