ORIGINAL SCRAPBOOK OF A 1965 VACATION IN PENNSYLVANIA, NEW JERSEY, AND VIRGINIA

1965. Hardcover. Unique, original scrapbook chronicling the vacation of an unidentified family through Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia in September 1965. Contains a wide array of color postcards, admission tickets, and brochures from tourist sites, hotels, and other places the family visited along the way. A brief itinerary is outlined on a typed sheet on the first page. Some of the postcards are manually captioned in the margins.

The scrapbook starts with the capitol building in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, then moves into views of Atlantic City. This is followed by Colonial Williamburg, the Jamestown colony, and finally, historic sites in Philadelphia. As a whole, this item offers a nostalgic look at American tourism more than half a century ago.

The scrapbook measures about 12.75" x 12.75" and is in thread-bound red boards.

Condition is very good. Most of the postcards and brochures are attached with adhesive photo corners, but some items have either slid out of the corners or were simply tucked in between pages because they could not be mounted. The pages have yellowed with age; some mild creasing due to years of page-flipping. Otherwise clean and sturdy. Item #319616
