Undated; circa 1930s. Canadian ex-nun Maria Monk's memoir about sexual immorality and infanticide in Catholic convents is considered by scholars to be an anti-Catholic fabrication. Her story was first published just two years after the Ursuline Convent Riots, the peak event of the mid-1800s anti-Catholic fervor in North America; ex-convent narratives were a popular genre at the time.
