London: John Murray, 1837. Leather. 13 vols. Ex-library. A complete set of 13 hardcover books decoratively bound in dark blue leather with ornate gilt spines, marbled foredges, and marbled endpapers. Edges rubbed and call number painted on each spine. Small chips and tears at top of spines on volume 6, 11, and 13. Spine labels lightly chafed and chipped across the set, but still easily legible. Hairline cracks on the edges of volume 1, 9, 10, and 12's spines have been discreetly repaired with clear-drying glue. Similar repair to small closed tear at head of volume 2's spine. Library stamps, stickers and card pockets inside each volume. Foxing on first and last few leaves of each volume. Discoloration on pages 56-57 of volume 6, where a flower was pressed; otherwise, text clean. Binding is still tight, but the books should be handled gently due to their age and the state of wear to the covers; the boards might crack off if opened roughly. Good reading condition, but clearly used. Item #186536
