This edited volume is the fruit of a symposium that produced at least 12 distinct papers, all included here. The papers are all authored by European scholars. The book begins with the contemporary relevance of Newman, then six papers are devoted to Newman's sources. This is followed by four essays on the development of Newman's influence in Europe. The last part is a paper on Newman's thought in relation to the Second Vatican Council, which had closed just two years prior to the publication of this volume. Various readers will appreciate the mid-twentieth European perspective on Newman's enduring relevance.
