Interesting book of Catholic Ritual issued for priests in the United States in 1824. Parsons, Early Catholic Americana, p. 197. John B. Purcell was Archbishop of Cincinnati from 1850-1883. He presided over a period of tremendous growth for the Catholic Church in America because of the swell of European Catholic immigrants to Ohio. Although he brought in many positive institutions to the Cincinnati archdiocese, he ended his final years in disgrace after the collapse of a private bank he had started to provide banking services for immigrants. A rare and interesting piece of Catholic Americana.
