London: Methuen, 1903. First edition. 308p, two plates, catalogue at rear dated February 1903. Blue cloth, lettered in gilt. The major flaw is that the frontispiece portrait of General Bacon was removed; the blank border of the portrait was trimmed away; and the image was then scotch-taped to the verso of the half-title page (so the image still faces the title page). The front blank free endpaper is also missing The book is otherwise in very good condition with a few traces of rubbing to the front board. The portrait of Mrs. Bacon is untouched. Item #20549
