The boards are warped; the front board is splitting away from the spine, about 3 inches from the top. Spine is stained grey and has a call number at the bottom. Spotty stains and discoloration on the front and back. Endpapers soiled as well. Ex-seminary copy, with old stamps and markings on the endpapers and title page. Pages uniformly browned and foxed with age, but otherwise, text clean. Binding is still tight, despite external damage. Item #184322
A work dealing with the history of the Gauls and with monasteries of the Maurist (Benedictine) Congregation, of which both authors were members. Contains numerous black and white illustrations. Text is in French. This copy belonged to Archbishop John B. Purcell of Cincinnati (1800-1883), whose signature is on the title page.
