A color poster for the 1940 film version of the Zane Grey novel THE LIGHT OF WESTERN STARS. Previous versions were released in 1925 and 1930. This version was directed by Lesley Selander, released by Paramount, and stars Victor Jory.
Very good condition. A few minor nicks along the edges and some dampstaining, which is more visible on the back than the front. Some light foxing on the back as well. Tiny pinholes at the top (where it was presumably hung). Otherwise, an attractive vintage piece of movie memorabilia in vivid color with eye-catching Western imagery. Measures approx. 41.5" x 27". Serial number R50/615 printed at the bottom on the right. Item #169164
This is most likely a poster for a re-release, as it emphasizes the role of Alan Ladd, who plays only a bit part in the movie. His career had not yet taken off when the movie originally came out; this release must have intended to capitalize on his later stardom. Furthermore, this release is under the banner of Favorite Films, a distribution company which handled many re-releases. No date is printed on the poster; based on the prominence of Alan Ladd, this is likely from the 1950s. A charming find for movie fans and collectors of vintage cowboy-themed Americana.
