Written entirely in French. A collection of Catholic sermons for Lent by Jean Baptiste Massillon, the 18th-century Bishop of Clermont and Advent preacher Versailles (in 1699). His sermons were popular for their moral, rather than dogmatic, themes. The spine and panel edges feature gilt decorations. From the page preceding the title page: "Collection des Meilleurs Ouvrages de la Langue Francoise, Dediee aux Amateurs de l'Art Typographique." Measures approx. 7" x 4"
