New York: Viking Press, 1980. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. FIRST EDITION SIGNED & INSCRIBED BY KING WITH A SCRATCHED OUT “OOOPS!” The master of terror shows his warm, humorous side in this inscribed copy of Firestarter. This first-edition is signed and inscribed by King on August 22, over five weeks before its official publication date of September 29, 1980.
This friendly inscription contains a mis-spelled word - King then scratched it out and added "oops" with an arrow pointing to the mis-spelling (see photos). The recipient is identified only as "Terry" and King hopes this person will achieve their dream to become a director: "To Terry, Hope you fulfill your admiti (oops) ambition to direct! Best, Stephen King 8/22/80".
FIRESTARTER was King's seventh book published under his own name and issued at the period where he was beginning to achieve superstar status, having won multiple Oscars for the movie Carrie. It was a best-seller and the basis for the popular Drew Barrymore film.
Book is in very good condition with the original dustjacket and shows light rubbing and wear from normal use, probably when it was originally read. Mild foxing to foredges.
While signed/inscribed King books are readily available, this one is distinctive in showing his friendly joking side. Whether Terry was a friend or acquaintance we may never know but it is easy to envision King laughing as he corrects his error and humbly points out his mistake. Item #1235315
