A COLLECTION OF 52 ITEMS, ALL PERSONALLY INSCRIBED BY DRAKE

A Magnificent collection of the works of the best-selling military science fiction author David Drake. Includes 28 hardcover books, nine paperback books, 11 digests, three drafts for unpublished anthologies, and the unpublished first draft of The Dragon Lord.
All items are inscribed, the vast majority with interesting notes such as "Didn't the nice folks at Putnam do a first rate job of production?", "I'm happy with how this worked out", "Still my favorite novel", "my best work to date", and so forth. This collection includes 22 hardcover first editions and two paperback first editions entirely by Drake; four hardcover first editions and five paperback editions of works co-written by Drake; two hardcover and two paperback anthologies which include Drake's stories; eleven science fiction digests which include Drake stories; typescripts for three proposed anthologies of Drake's stories to be published by The Vainglory Press (none of which ever came to fruition); the first draft of the typescript for his second novel, The Dragon Lord; miscellaneous promotional material from his publisher.
All works are inscribed from Drake to his long-time friend John D. Squires. Squires, Drake, and Karl Edward Wagner were friends in the early 1970s when Drake's writing career was beginning. The pair stayed in touch over the years until Squires' passing. Squires ran his own small press (The Vainglory Press) and was one of the world's leading authorities on the works of fantasy author M.P. Shiel. Item #1233660
