Sauk City: Arkham House, 1942. 1st Edition. Hardcover. First printing of this major Arkham House title in the original dustjacket. The book is in fine condition. The jacket has been skillfully restored by a professional paper conservator. The front panel was neatly reattached where it was split and some shallow chipping at the spine ends has been filled in. The reapirs blend almost seamlessly and can only be seen when one is closely examining the jacket in strong light. A tear across the spine of the jacket has also been repaired but is more visible. Overall the jacket elsewise shows minor surface wear; the spine lettering is faded but perfectly legible. Overall very good condition. Archival material was used in the restoration. Item #1233044
The third title published by Arkham House following works by Lovecraft and Derleth. The book served to rescue Ashton Smith from the obscurity of the pulps; it has been reprinted several times and remains the best compilation of his horror fiction. Only 1054 copies were printed and the book is obviously scarce.
