Gallery of Fine Books - Rare Books III:
AN ORIGINAL DIARY OF THE BRITISH COMMANDER ABOARD A BRITISH GUNSHIP IN WEST AFRICA. Morrell commanded the gunship HMS INVERSTIGATOR on its November 1866 expedition up the Niger River. In his diary he records daily events particularly his dealings with various native chieftains. The diary is embellished by the author's drawings of which some are hand-colored and some are double-paged.
A SUPERB CUSTOM LEATHER BINDING BY SANGORSKI & SUTCLIFFE. A splendid copy of a personalized binding by one of the greatest binderies of history. This book is in perfect condition and is housed in a custom-made leather box with felt interior.
The first edition of Parrish's most famous work. This copy is nicer than most with the plates all in registration.
The first edition of this highly important work of Americana detailing Lewis and Clark's epic expedition across the American continent. Bound in a early 20th century binding of half leather and marbled boards; covers somewhat rubbed; folding map with some light foxing; general light age toning to pages. The maps are all in good condition. A good copy overall of a rare and important book.
INSCRIBED PRESENTATION COPY FROM NIXON TO CHIEF JUSTICE WARREN BURGER. Nixon appointed Burger to the Supreme Court in 1969. Together, the two men had an enormous impact on American society. Beloved by some and despised by others, Nixon is one of the great American political figures of the 20th century. As Chief Justice, Burger presided over numerous landmark cases such as Roe vs. Wade. An important association copy between two of the most important political leaders of their era. This warm inscription shows the respect and friendship between the two men.
A BEAUTIFUL SET OF SCOTT IN A FINE LEATHER BINDING. This is the Border Edition of Scott's works which is considered to be one of the best sets of his writings ever produced. This copy regrettably lacks two of the 48 volumes; the volumes, however, are not numbered on their spines so the decorative appeal of the books is unaffected. The remaining 46 volumes however are both in very fine condition and of a very regal appearance.
Classic work on the breed.
